A quick thought
Lots of chat recently about the link or otherwise of Iraq to the bombings.
Blair said it would've happened anyway, that 9/11 was before Iraq etc. But to deny any link, although almost necessary politically speaking, is wishful. The link lies not with the bombers but the nutters that persuade them to be bombers. Iraq is a key piece of the persuasion doctrine, as shown by the crazy fools on BBC Two last night (just after the Idler showed the beauty of a non-existent work ethic by thumping the FT on University Challenge despite that bloke from Blur scoring minus points). Anyway, it's not the crazy fools that go blowing people up, they tend to opt for the much more refined beheading duties. But they can use Iraq to get people worked up enough to splatter themselves over central London, and it works. Nothing anyone can do about it, really, if we withdrew from Iraq, they'd just go back to the Infidel argument, only shout a bit louder to heighten the effect.
For the record, not that it's in any way important: I've always sat fairly firmly in the 'good idea, monumentally rubbish execution' camp over the war; either that or the 'meh' camp.
