Blair, Belgium and B*******

Astute fellows will have noticed recently that Messrs Blair and Clarke have been making a mess of the nation's op-ed pages, claiming that they're not power-crazy idiots, but even if they were, it's for our own good, so we should shut up and leave them alone.

I did leave them alone, although not for the reasons they were proposing. Firstly, I had better things to do when they came out. Secondly, having heard more or less what it contained, I swerved it on the grounds that I care for my mental health, and there were certain things I didn't want to know that our dear elected leader and his deformed and deranged minion had said. Finally, I knew full well that they would be royally fisked and made to look rather silly by people who weren't me. (Hereand here are good places to start).

And while we're here, some idiot being paid by the Telegraph to write without thinking is using the 'Israel argument' (although technically he's referencing Belgium) to tacitly defend First-Past-the-Post. He also thinks that one isolated incident is a reason that Belgium's system of government (which is probably ropey as hell) is that much worse than Britain's, cunningly forgetting that Charles Clarke and Ian Blair are still hanging around, not to mention that when disreputable cretins do resign, they tend to pop up again later.

As I write, my comment is sitting in front of the moderation panel.

UPDATE: It's been a day, and still my comment hasn't appeared. Shocking censorship from the 'free' press. How pointing out that because one thing is rubbish it doesn't make another, only vaguely related thing, is too evil to be published is beyond me. Perhaps it was because I did it in a jokey way, (sort of praising Hitler because he didn't kill as many people as Stalin) I could technically have been glorifying terrorism and thus the Telegraph wanted to keep me out of jail...
