Scotland beats England again

The Scottish are so much more numerate and politically sophisticated than we are in the rest of the UK. I am jealous. I don't see either Cameron or Brown ever advocating "a multi-option referendum, settled by the Single Transferable Vote" as Alex Salmond has done today. Nor do I see many journalists able to recognise the simplicity of 1,2,3 voting and understand that voters get it too. But that is what Brian Taylor does in his BBC blog:

You’d place a number one against your first preference, two against your second and . . . you’re ahead of me now, aren’t you?

And the blog piece and he comments afterwards include an intelligent discussion of an STV referendum versus the winner-takes-all approach. Good stuff.
