Is Harriet ready to vote for Christmas?
Harriet Harman was speaking at Compass Conference a week ago. Here are two notable quotes from her keynote speech on equality:
"Parliament as an institution lacks credibility when it is unrepresentative"
"The difficult means justifies the ends."
While Harriet was speaking on the low number of women MPs in Parliament and on All Women Shortlists, the logical conclusion of her arguments and her stance is the necessity of real electoral reform. Perhaps she is now realising that, as difficult and painful as it would be (well really not for her, but for many of her colleagues), now is the time to vote for Christmas - for MPs to support some form of PR for the Commons. Means and ends, the crux of politics and a true test of a politician's, and a party's, character indeed.
