Women and the Vote campaign stunt

2nd July 2008 is an important day in the women’s movement calendar – it is the 80th anniversary of universal suffrage, the date when women were finally given equal voting rights as men.

The Electoral Reform Society plans to ‘celebrate’ this date with a publicity stunt near Westminster (all appropriate permissions applied for!). The idea is to have 10-20 women dressed up in 1920s clothing demonstrating for better female representation in Parliament. The idea is to use the historical image to highlight a still persistent problem – namely the continued under-representation of women in Parliament.

ERS is looking for volunteers to help with this event – all you would need to do is let them have your clothes size (so that we can get you a dress) and turn up on the day. The stunt should not go on for more than two hours. Aiming to start at around 9.30ish in the morning - so you should be free to go by latest 12 o’clock. The timings will be confirmed nearer the time.

If you are interested in getting involved, contact Beatrice Barleon on beatrice.barleon@electoral-reform.org.uk / 020 7928 1622.
